Anxiety Over Global Warming Misconceptions (A Therapist’s Point Of View)

A lot of people are not that concern about global warming. They believe that everything in the environment is changing naturally. These people do not have this fear that one day, things will end up worse. That no matter how much each of them would try and save the planet, it is going to be too late. Knowing that scares me. Due to my anxiety, I sometimes experience panic attacks every time I think about what’s going to happen in the future. So I asked my therapist if there is a possibility of me getting rid of the mental illness. And one of her suggestion is to learn the misconceptions of global warming.

The Globe Is Not Warming – No, the globe is experiencing the worst kind of greenhouse effect. The unprecedented rate of melting the ice of Greenland and Antarctica is its proof. There is a continuous decline of sea ice in the most known iced continent of the globe. So in evaluation, if there is a continental ice meltdown, a warming process is happening.

Science Have No Idea What Is Going On – Yes, there are cases that some predicted data in the past were not as accurate as today. Perhaps that is due to a lack of advancement in technology. But scientists did not change their judgment when they say the globe is experiencing a global heat. The Earth’s layers are continuously, and that is something. Science knows what is happening to the Earth, and people don’t listen.

The Earth Is Cooling – One way that some people look at climate change is the temperature. However, you just don’t go by that. That is because there are plenty of other signs that prove global warming exists. These include the three-millimeter rise of sea levels per year. It is the most suitable indication that the globe is expanding and getting hotter.

The Sun Is To BlameGlobal warming has nothing to do with the sun getting brighter. But yes, it is getting brighter. In the late years, it contributed to some warming then. But in the 1950s, it started to get dimmer. So scientifically saying, the suns almost have little contribution to what is currently happening to the Earth.

Humans Are Fewer Contributors Of Climate Change – No, humans are the ones responsible for the greenhouse effect. Yes, they only emit a tiny fraction of CO2 in the atmosphere per year. That is approximately 30 gigatonnes. It is much lesser compared to the natural ocean and land resources, which is 780 gigatonnes. But before that “human small fraction,” the system was in balance. The oceans and lands are absorbing the same amount of CO2 per year.

Volcanoes Emit More CO2 – No, volcanoes don’t. The truth is, they only emit a small amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. The exact contribution is 0.25 gigatonnes annually. If you will look at it, that is just less than one percent as much as human-made CO2. Therefore, it is “no.” Volcanoes are not at all responsible for global warming and are less likely a significant contributor to its damaging effects.

Water Is The Most Potent Greenhouse Gas – Indeed, it is. However, water is also increasing in the atmosphere. The only way for the atmosphere to hold tons of water vapor is if gets warmer. If you noticed, it all comes back to the contribution of CO2. Therefore, a doubling of CO2 (on its own) increases the globe’s temperature at one degree Celsius. With that, it leads in the meltdown of the ice, which reduces the Earth’s reflectivity on its surface.

Global Warming Is Not That Bad – Perhaps people thought that global warming is not a big deal. But no one claims it is going to be some crazy source of catastrophe. However, due to climate change, all of us can expect more droughts and floods, get more intense storms, sea levels will rise, the temperature will become hotter, and the oceans will become more acidic.

The term climate change indicates that the problem is more intense phenomena of drought, storms, floods, and ocean acidification. Everything about the Earth is changing, and if we don’t do something about it, we will have to pay the cost at some point. The point is, it would be better for all the species on the planet if we start reducing CO2 emissions. It would also reasonably be a lot cheaper now than if we wait and suffer the consequences later.

Teaching Our Kids To Be More Eco-Conscious

We are all suffering from the consequences that we brought upon ourselves when we first started neglecting our environment. Global warming was raised as an issue, and we continued to ignore we thought that was impossible. Then, we also thought plastic was the best invention there is until we realized that it had affected our planet and slowly, our world is dying. And now, even our mental health, (psychologists warn) are affected by this.

South Koreans On Anxiety And Depression: Mental Health Problems That They Won’t Admit

The population in South Korea may be a model of physical health, but that doesn’t mean everything is ok. South Korea is one of the most beautiful places to visit with its expanding business when it comes to the skin care regimen. The great food that they offer, and the fascinating culture and heritage down to their traditional dress – Hanbok, would make any individual think that this country is somewhat a serene and lovely place to experience. A person closely related to me came back in amazement of South Korea’s beauty, but yes, all is not perfect. As with their mental health problems like depression and anxiety being recognized, it is proof that not all beautiful things exist without issues. As the saying goes, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.”

Reducing Air Pollution Through Vertical Gardens

What Is A Vertical Garden?

The vertical garden is something that has yet to hit the industry but yes, it is getting there. Across the globe, big companies have gotten interested in this technology and are continuously planning to create these gardens in urban areas where trees are rare and air pollution is widespread.

Vertical gardens are a unique strategy that allows people to grow plants in a suspended or vertical panel with the use of hydroponics. They can be held to the walls or can be self-supported. They may be called living walls or moss walls. They can also be created to be as high as over 50 feet, or as small as a photo frame.

Just recently, China displayed its first-ever vertical garden that allows the production of 60 kilograms of oxygen daily. Also, in India, its first vertical garden grows about 3500 plants.

How Do They Work?

Vertical gardens have a skeletal framework that is created like the real walls in our homes or office buildings. Some systems are built with hidden pipes that provide a method for self-watering to keep the plants wet and healthy. Other systems, however, don’t provide these pipes and require manual watering.

Since this technology is fairly new, the lifespan of vertical gardens are yet to be determined, although the walls and the panels are expected to last for about 25 years.

What Are The Benefits Of A Vertical Garden?

Having green walls in your home or office is definitely a beauty, but aside from cosmetic reasons, there are more amazing benefits of this wonderful innovation.

  • It improves the quality of air. These vertical gardens are a natural air filter and are very useful especially for condominium residents who don’t have enough space to build a normal garden. It helps create a cleaner and greener environment while promoting good health and productivity. In the offices where most air particles contain carbon monoxide and other harmful elements, the vertical greens help break these harmful elements and replace them with clean air.

  • It helps reduce noise. This benefit is not as common as reducing air pollution, but it has been proven that vegetation can effectively reduce high-frequency sound to a minimum. Therefore, with the greens attached to the walls, which also help insulate sound, the vertical garden is an efficient method of pacifying noise from the streets and other neighboring buildings.
  • It saves money and energy. The structure of the vertical garden is built in such a way that it works through a process known as evapotranspiration, where it is able to decrease the temperature during the summer and produce heat during the winter months. For this reason, less money and energy are required to stay in a comfortable and temperature-controlled home or office.
  • It allows for a lesser dependency on land or property. Because the plants grow vertically and the garden relies on frames and support systems that are positioned upward, there is no need for homeowners to buy or lease more property, saving money and space.

Vertical gardens are suitable for new or renovated buildings, from just cozy apartments to the huge commercial spaces. They can be built inside or outside the buildings. They are versatile, cost-efficient, and something to be considered at this day and age.
